πŸ“‹ Tender Overview

Scope :

The proposed second additional financing project will build on the outer islands component of the increasing access to renewable energy project (iarep) and replicate the productive uses of energy (pue) and sustainable blue economy (sbe) elements introduced in the first additional financing of iarep. the proposed project will install battery energy storage systems (bess) in the outer islands of nukufetau, nukulaelae and nui to enable the full utilization of the solar photovoltaic array being installed under the ongoing iarep. the new lithium-ion bess will replace lead-acid batteries installed in the last ten years. the project will also install pues and sbes relevant to each island and could include electric vehicles (bikes, motorbikes, boats) and charging stations, ict equipment for connectivity and disaster preparedness, ice-making and water supply facilities.
Tuvalus 2009 national energy policy aims to promote renewable energy resources and energy systems that are cost-effective, equitable, reliable, accessible, affordable, secure, and environmentally sustainable to improve the well-being of the people of tuvalu. in 2013, the government launched the enetise tutumauthe master plan for renewable electricity and energy efficiency in tuvalu, which aims for generation of 100% renewable energy by 2020 (subsequently extended to 2025) and 30% increased energy efficiency. like many other small pacific islands, tuvalus electricity production relies heavily on imported diesel fuel, which is transported by sea over long distances and subject to climate and price shocks.
the second additional financing is designed to support innovative climate-adapted solutions supporting (i) a climate-resilient and sustainable energy supply system, (ii) improved resilience of vulnerable communities through sbe approaches, and (iii) improved disaster preparedness, with particular focus on the outer islands.
