Scope : To Set up Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa Campus in Rivona Village, Goa
A new Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campus is set to be established in Rivona, South Goa, according to a confirmation by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. The announcement came through a written statement to the assembly, detailing that the central government's site selection committee had inspected and approved the location.
The approval is contingent upon the state government ensuring proper connectivity and providing necessary amenities such as roads, power, and water supply. Additionally, changes in land zoning and relaxation of the Floor Area Ratio (FAR) requirements are needed to accommodate the new campus.
Currently, the revenue department is in the process of verifying the land's title documents. The site in Rivona was selected after earlier proposed locations faced opposition from local residents. As an institute of national importance, IIT Goa is expected to create numerous job opportunities for teaching and non-teaching staff, including local hires.
The government has assured that environmental safeguards will be in place throughout the approval process to protect the green cover around the new campus.
