PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Background:
In recent years, the Syrian war has led to over 2.9 million people fleeing to Turkey. The influx of these refugees, combined with high inflation and currency devaluation, has exacerbated socioeconomic problems in Turkey β particularly in the southeastern region. Earthquakes in February 2023 further worsened the situation there: income opportunities are limited, unemployment is rising, poverty is widespread, and economic growth is slowing. This places additional strain on social safety nets.
Objective:
Employment prospects for refugees and residents in the host Turkish communities have improved.
Approach:
The project integrates employers and employees into its measures. It includes particularly vulnerable groups and focuses on developing vocational training and skills.
The project promotes formal employment and supports micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with services such as consulting and access to finance. Furthermore, it assists unregistered businesses and business owners with registering their companies.
Social cohesion and gender equality are integral to all project activities. The project collaborates with various stakeholders from the public and private sectors, non-governmental organizations, academia, chambers of commerce, municipalities, and business associations through initiatives, partnerships, development projects, and the exchange of best practices
. It is implemented within the framework of the Middle East Employment Initiative (BONO) and the Special Initiative for Refugees and Host Countries (SI GA) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is co-financed by the European Union through the FRIT Fund.
