PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Background:
Rapid urbanization is taking place in the Asia-Pacific region. It is projected that three billion people will live in cities by 2050. This development places considerable pressure on rapidly growing cities: they must create infrastructure and services that can accommodate population growth, comply with necessary climate protection measures, and are future-proof. Urban agglomerations contribute up to 75 percent of greenhouse gas emissions through their energy demand. Many Asian cities are facing the serious consequences of climate change, which pose risks to the population, the environment, and the local economy.
The partner countries of the Urban Act project are working to achieve their nationally mandated contributions to climate protection and urban planning. Nevertheless, several obstacles continue to hinder the transition to long-term, climate-friendly urban development. These include ineffective coordination between the relevant bodies and authorities and insufficient access to climate information, which would be necessary for evidence-based planning. Furthermore, stakeholders often lack the necessary knowledge to find appropriate solutions, prepare climate protection measures, and secure the necessary fundin
