This project aims to increase the protection of the rights of women, youth and children by the justice system in the Eastern Caribbean (St. Lucia, Dominica, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines). It will provide technical assistance to the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, High Courts and Magistrates Courts in each national jurisdiction to improve the functioning of the courts and deliver fair and transparent justice. It will increase the capacity of vulnerable populations to know and exercise their rights through judicial processes and will increase the capacity of judges, prosecutors, public defenders targeting Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) to reduce delays in the system for sexual offences among other matters.
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) Improved capacity of judges, prosecutors and public defenders of the Eastern Caribbean to efficiently deliver and administer criminal justice, especially in cases of sexual and gender based violence affecting women, girls and youth; and (2) improved capacity of vulnerable populations to exercise rights in judicial proceedings and the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court's ability to manage such proceedings focusing on women, girls and youth.
