Project General Description
Management submits the following proposal and recommendation for an ADF grant of sixteen million nine hundred and forty thousand Units of Account (UA 16.94 million) to the Republic of Malawi to finance the Agricultural Productivity and Marketing Program (APP). It is based on a government request to the AfDB dated September 22, 2023 for budget support to strengthen agricultural sector reforms and resilience.
Project Objectives
The program's development objective is to improve agricultural productivity, intensify marketing and increase private sector participation, as well as build resilience. Its specific objectives are: i) to create a favorable economic and regulatory environment for agricultural transformation; ii) to promote agricultural productivity, marketing and market access; iii) to strengthen resilience by protecting livelihoods, particularly those of small-scale farmers and peasants, and food security.
Beneficiaries
The Ministries of Finance and Agriculture are the direct beneficiaries of the program. However, the program should benefit the entire population of Malawi, in particular those involved in the agricultural sector, as well as private sector players in the latter.
