Scope : To Set up Mega IT data centre in 19-acre industrial zone in Powai, Mumbai, Maharashtra
A mega IT data centre will come up in Powai.
The state urban development department has permitted the conversion of 7.7 hectares (approximately 19 acres) in Powai from a special development zone to an industrial zone. This will enable Hiranandani group’s Yotta to set up the data centre in Powai.
In the Development Plan 2034, the no development zone was renamed as a special development zone.
The notification stated the company is based in Panvel and wants to set up a mega data centre in Powai village. The company has stated it will generate jobs, besides creating a supply chain that will provide GST to the state government.
In a letter to the department, HGP Community, which owns the data centre division Yotta, has said its customers will invest in dedicated server hardware and wants land to establish the new data centre.
The floor space index allowed is 1 as is provided for in an industrial zone. The company has already paid 50% premium of Rs 16 crore (during the relaxation period) to the BMC.
Some of the conditions for setting up the mega data centre include verifying if the land is in the eco-sensitive zone of the Thane Flamingo Sanctuary and ensuring the data centre will not harm the environment. An environment impact assessment report is to be obtained.
