Metro Badlapur Kanjurmarg Tender

Location MumbaiMaharashtra government cleared new metro projects for Badlapur keeping in mind the increasing population in the area. The population in these areas is on a hike because of the low budget houses there. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority mmrda has proposed new metro corridors. The metro line proposed will go till Kanjurmarg from Badlapur covering 45 kilometres distance. The authorities will submit a detailed report on the proposed projects in the cabinet meeting for final approval. According to MMRDA almost 10 lakh commuters will travel daily from the Badlapur-Kanjur Marg metro line from 2041.Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority MMRDA is considering public private partnership PPP model for Metro Line Kanjurmarg-Badlapur. The nodal agency is considering either for PPP model or Swiss Challenge Method and after clearance from the state government it will finalise one of the model. Mumbai Metros first line between Ghatkopar and Varsova was built on PPP model by Reliance Infrastructure and MMRDA in joint venture JV. The Reliance Infrastructure has 74 percent stake while remainder is held by the MMRDA. The project was awarded in 2007 however the actual work on the project began in late 2008. The metro was supposed to be completed by 2012 but due to permissions such as right of way shifting of utilities and go-ahead from railways to cross over western line at Andheri the project got delayed. Due to this the cost of the project escalated from Rs 2351 crore to Rs 4321 crore. Due to this the arbitration over cost escalation and rise in fares currently heard by the courts. Due to these issues the MMRDA decided to develop Metro projects on its own. It is directly executing five projects worth approx Rs 45000 crore while it is executing Metro Line-3 between Colaba and SEEPZ through special purpose vehicle Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation and work on detailed project report of three more lines is underway. In February 2019 the government of Maharashtra sanctioned approval for the project. In October 2019 Italian Firm MM Spa was appointed as consultant to prepare detailed project report DPR and bid document. DPR preparation is underway for the Metro project.
