Objective
PlantClim aims to strengthen the research excellence and international competitiveness of the Institute of Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IBOT) through targeted capacity building in plant adaptation to long-term climate change. IBOT currently faces fragmented international collaboration, low competitiveness in ERA, limited research management capacity, and tackles key scientific gaps in understanding the mechanistic basis of plant resilience under long-term climate change. PlantClim will address these gaps by strategic Twinning with leading European academic partners and one technology centre, integrating microbiome analytics, high-resolution metabolomics and epigenetic profiling within long-term climate manipulation experiments in synergy with joint research, hands-on training, structured mobility, workshops and mentoring. This will enable knowledge transfer, sustainable capacity building, and foster application-oriented perspectives.
The transformation will open development opportunities and collaboration to all research and administrative departments at IBOT.
The changes will be embedded within IBOT through the establishment of the Hub for Integrative Plant Adaptation Research (HIPA) as a permanent platform for interdisciplinary collaboration and European networking, alongside a structured early-career researcher development and leadership programme (ECR-Expedite) integrating mobility, mentoring and proposal-writing training.
New EU Proposal Development Support Team (EUPD) will broaden participation and leadership in Horizon Europe thanks to the new cooperation of better trained persons in project- and research departments. The project contributes to reducing the research and innovation gap in Widening countries and supports EU priorities including the Horizon Europe Missions on Climate Adaptation, the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, and the European Green Deal.
