Project Location Bihar India and Kathmandu NepalGreenfield Brownfield GreenfieldProject Description To Build a Railway link between Raxaul in Bihar and Kathmandu in Nepal The Central government will build a railway link between Raxaul in Bihar and Kathmandu in Nepal as part if its efforts to push Delhi-led connectivity projects in Nepal. The project report of the rail line would be prepared by top officials of the two countries by first quarter of 2019.Survey work has been completed on 136 km international railway from Raxaul in Bihar to Kathmandu in Nepal. The project is targeted to be completed by 2030. The rail link will entail an investment of Rs 16550 crore excluding the cost of acquisition of land by Nepal. The memorandum of understanding MoU for the project was signed on 31 August 2018. The Ministry of External Affairs of India is to fund the project. A total of 32 road over bridges 53 underpasses 259 minor bridges and 41 major bridges will be designed to facilitate the route which will pass through 39 tunnels. India to prepare the detailed project report for the proposed Raxaul-Kathmandu railway. This comes after the Indian side showed a keen interest in preparing the DPR. The Indian side is positive that they will prepare the DPR. We are still in talks with them. They have asked us to send them an official proposal to prepare the DPRThe Raxaul-Kathmandu railway is proposed to stretch all the way to Kerung. A preliminary study has already been done to link the three countries via railway. the Chinese side has not shown any interest to prepare a DPR. Subsequently no talk was held between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Nepali leaders regarding the DPR during Wangs recent visit. The railway joining Raxaul to Kathmandu will go via Nijgadh and will have 45 tunnels and 25 bridges.
