PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Background:
Bangladesh is one of the countries most affected by climate change. The impacts include heavy rainfall, flooding, storms, river erosion, heat waves, and other natural disasters. Approximately 30 percent of the land area is submerged annually as a result of monsoon rains and river flooding. Climate change and the increase in informal settlements create complex problems in cities that cannot be adequately addressed due to limited resources and weak institutions. There is a lack of basic services and affordable, needs-based infrastructure measures that would increase the resilience of residential areas to climate change and thus improve the lives of urban populations. Small and medium-sized cities lack sufficient resources to implement infrastructure measures for improved climate resilience.
Objective:
Climate-resilient urban development in Bangladesh is strengthened through locally led, innovative solutions.
Approach:
The project objectives are to be achieved as follows:
โข Development of locally led, innovative measures to improve climate resilience within the framework of "innovation labs" and implementation in selected cities. Innovation labs are problem-solving processes that foster innovation through the development of ideas, implementation measures, and knowledge exchange. The focus is on user-friendly, agile methods.
โข Professional exchange and mutual learning between cities on climate-resilient urban development.
โข Advising the central government on the national policy framework for climate-resilient urban development based on the successful implementation of selected
