PROJECT DESCRIPTION (DE)
Due to land use pressure, 43% of India's forests are degraded and their ecosystem services (ES) are at risk. The reforestation potential is enormous (>76 million ha). Despite an upward trend, India remains far from achieving its national target (33%), the Bonn Challenge targets, and the NDC. Challenges remain in the implementation of landscape concepts such as access to finance, knowledge sharing, and MRV. RECAP4NDC empowers stakeholders in four states to effectively plan, finance, implement, and monitor forest landscape restoration (FLR) and tree restoration outside of forest land (TOF). By 2029, RECAP4NDC aims to achieve ecological, socio-economic, governance, and climate-related benefits in 0.4 million ha of forest landscape, thereby sequestering 10 MtCO2e in 10 years. 10 million people will benefit from improved forest ES. Scaling up will lead to the restoration of 1.1 million ha and the sequestration of 110 MtCO2e in 10 years.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION (EN)
India is among the few countries to have achieved a positive trend in forest & tree cover which stands at 24.6% against the 33% National Forest Policy 1988 target. Areas with serious forest & land degradation stress exist (43% are degraded). India is making concerted efforts to meet its national targets, Bonn Challenge and NDC goals. In 4 states, RECAP4NDC enables actors to effectively plan, finance, implement and monitor For
