π Tender Overview
Scope :
Construction of Rundu Water Purification Plant Extension.
The project site is in Rundu, in the Kavango East region on the southern banks of the Okavango River on the Angolan border. The work entails the complete replacement of the existing abstraction systems and purification plants in the area to meet the projected 2037 water demand of 36 million litres a day.
A new water treatment plant will also be constructed at Rundu across six hectares with a total supply capacity of 1,800 cubic metres an hour. At present, the total capacity of the Rundu facility is approximately 840 cubic metres an hour.
Namibia Water Corporation is undertaking the expansion of the water purification plant in Rundu, Namibia. Rundu is the largest town in the Kavango Region, it is situated on the southern side of the Okavango River on the border with Angola. To supply water to Rundu Town, NamWater operates two river water supply schemes, Rundu and Nβkarapamwe. At present, the total capacity of these two schemes is about 840 m3/h. Both schemes are old and are running at maximum capacity. As a result, internal NamWater studies suggested the construction of a new plant with a capacity of 1800 m3/h; and that is an increased in capacity of about 104%, to eventually meet the evergrowing demand during the fiscal year of 2036. The project is part of the replacement of the existing water schemes (water abstraction, conveyance and purification plant) which has reached the end of its lifetime. The new scheme will have a capacity of 36,000 m3/day to meet the 2037 water demand. The US$25 million project includes the following:
1. Construction of a 36,000 m3 water purification plant
2. Construction of settling tank
3. Construction of pumping station
