To Develop 1-GW Shelmalere offshore wind farm project off the coast of Ireland.
Description:
Irish renewables developer DP Energy and Spanish utility group Iberdrola SA have engaged three consultancies to evaluate the environmental impact of their proposed 1-GW Shelmalere offshore wind farm project off the coast of Ireland. According to The project promoters they have hired Irish engineering firm Fehily Timoney and Company as lead consultant, and UK’s Intertek Group Plc and MarineSpace as partner consultants, tasking them to prepare a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR).
The three firms will examine the impact of the fixed-foundation wind farm development on the marine and land environment, and potential effects on commercial activities, cultural heritage, transport and aviation throughout the entire life-cycle. DP Energy and Iberdrola propose to locate the Shelmalere wind farm in the waters off the coasts of Wicklow and Wexford. The project is currently in the early development stage, with operations seen by 2030.
