The Tangier authorities, in partnership with the Ministry of the Interior, the Agency for the Promotion and Development of the Northern Provinces (APDN) and the Council of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region, have decided to allocate 56 million dirhams to extend the network of surveillance camera systems in the city's public spaces.
This project, the largest of its kind in the region, aims to strengthen the surveillance and control system in the city's streets and public spaces.
The contributions of this project are distributed as follows: 28 million dirhams from the General Directorate of Local Authorities, 14 million dirhams from the Council of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region and 14 million dirhams from the Tangier urban municipality.
533 high quality cameras will be installed, as well as fibre optic network, electricity and necessary infrastructure on about 20 kilometres, covering 111 strategic monitoring points.
These cameras, which will be located at various points between the districts of Beni Makada, Malabata and even the medina, will be connected to a centralised control room located at the headquarters of Tangier's police headquarters. This room will be equipped with the latest technology to ensure efficient and optimal use of the surveillance system.
This initiative is part of a shared desire by local, regional and national authorities to ensure the protection of both citizens and public property. It also demonstrates the local and regional commitment to modernise the urban security infrastructure in the Tangier region and to fight crime.
Strengthening the security of the city has been one of the main objectives of the local authorities for some time. The installation of the cameras will be carried out in several stages, and is expected to be completed in 2027.
