The EU mission Restore Our Ocean and Waters focuses on restoring and protecting habitats for migratory fish species in the Danube River Basin and the northwestern Black Sea region. The EU-funded SWIM project will develop innovative and sustainable solutions through 13 activities at seven pilot sites to enhance habitat connectivity, quality, and conservation, thereby improving the health of aquatic ecosystems. Building on previous initiatives, it will implement complementary technologies such as restocking actions, fish passages, and a digital platform linked to the MEASURES Info System. The project fosters transnational cooperation among stakeholders, including governmental bodies, NGOs, researchers, and local communities, through the SWIM Alliance. It could serve as a model for similar efforts across Europe and beyond.
