The overall objective aims to contribute to the transition towards social and environmental food systems as well as to the development of value chains in the fields of aquaculture, fisheries and horticulture.
Its specific objective is to sustainably increase the production, per capita consumption and income of quality products from fisheries, aquaculture and horticulture, with particular attention to women and youth. In order to achieve this specific objective, the expected results are:
building the capacity of smallholders active in these value chains to effectively improve product quality and quantity, reduce post-harvest losses and increase their access to local and regional markets;
strengthening small and medium-sized enterprises and young entrepreneurs active at the different levels of the targeted value chains in order to work in an inclusive and sustainable way, create decent jobs and contribute to better food systems; And
strengthening an enabling environment for the development of inclusive value chains and sustainable food systems.
The project will be implemented in ten districts in Rwanda and will serve in particular small producers, small and medium enterprises and consumers.
The project developed and implemented by Enabel over four years for a total budget of 15.5 MEUR is financed by the EUD up to 10 MEUR and by Luxembourg up to 5.5 MEUR.
