📋 Tender Overview
The project addresses studies and works for the upgrade of the existing rail-road terminal, an important multimodal transport hub in Haniska pri Košiciach near the city of Košice in Slovakia, close to the Hungarian and the Ukrainian borders. It is located in close vicinity to the Rhine-Danube Core Network Corridor, on the section Munich/ Nuremberg - Prague - Ostrava/Prerov - Žilina - Košice - UA border. The objective of the project is to enhance the interoperability of multimodal transport and to contribute to improved cross-border connections, increasing the railway capacity and improving the efficiency of combined freight transport in Slovakia. The modal shift from road to rail will contribute to the decarbonisation of the transport system, which is in line with the EU Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. The project covers the upgrade of the multimodal terminal, which provides facilities for the transhipment of freight from road / rail to rail, on railway lines with the standard European gauge (1,435 mm) and the Russian broad gauge (1,524 mm). More specifically, the existing railway sidings will be extended to accommodate 740 m long trains. The works will include the upgrade and extension of the handling area, the access roads, the utility networks and the security equipment of the terminal. The project also includes the installation of technological equipment for transhipment, in particular two gantry cranes and a Terminal Operation System (TOS), which will optimise the terminals operations and increase the transhipment capacity.
