Following the construction of the Bandra-Versova sea link BVSL motorists from the suburbs will be able to drive to Worli in central Mumbai almost entirely over the sea. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation MSRDC will be entrusted with building the facility. The state government intends to complete part of the Nariman Point and Kandivli coastal road project by 2020.The MSRDC has already received coastal regulatory zone CRZ clearance from the central agencies for the 9.5 km sea link. The project is estimated to cost Rs 7500 crore. The MSRDC will raise funds through domestic funding agencies or nationalised banks for the project.The Versova-Bandra Sea Link project worth Rs 7502 crore is part of the coastal road project linking Nariman Point with the northern suburbs. The project will be built on EPC model. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation MSRDC has secured environment clearance from the state for the project. Work on the project will commence from October 2017.The guarantee includes Rs 350 crore as PS-BG and Rs 385 crore as MA-BG to MSRDC. The company has submitted the guarantees ahead of time for fast-track completion of the project.Bandra-Versova Sea route is the second phase of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link Bandra-Versova Sea Link. It will be three times longer than the current C link. The benefits of the new C link route will be to the millions of people living in the western suburbs. It will be connected to the Western Express Highway.A route from Bandra Bus Terminus connecting the sea link at Versova Nana Nani Park from the Western Express Highway Parle Junction will also be developed.A consortium of Reliance Infrastructure and Italys Astaldi will build the 10km Bandra-Versova sea link in five years. The government awarded the Rs 6994-crore project to the consortium though the bid lowest among the five in the fray was Rs 1477 crore higher than the Rs 5516 crore estimate made by the state in 2016 while inviting bids.Construction of the sea link which is expected to reduce the travel time between Bandra and Versova to around 10 minutes is likely to begin in October.
